Thanks to the generous support of the NSW Government Office of Sport, NSW Ice Racing has been able to continue delivering opportunities, training pathways, and a sense of belonging to skaters across the state. With the severe lack of ice time their grant funding has safeguarded the future of ice racing in New South Wales.
Ice racing is a niche but deeply exciting sport—one that requires specialised facilities, expert coaching, and a dedicated volunteer base. While passion drives our athletes, passion alone cannot cover the rising costs of ice time, equipment, development programs, and competition travel. The NSW Government Office of Sport’s investment has allowed us to bridge that gap and ensure that every skater, from beginners to high‑performance athletes, has access to the resources they need.
Supporting Skaters at Every Level
One of the most significant impacts of this grant has been the ability to maintain and enhance our athlete development pathways. Ice racing rewards discipline, resilience, and commitment, but the journey begins with access: access to training, coaching, and a supportive community.
With this funding, NSW Ice Racing has been able to:
- Subsidise ice time: keeping training accessible for families.
- Purchase equipment: boots, blades and specialised timing equipment.
- Support coaching programs: ensuring skaters receive high‑quality guidance.
- Offer development opportunities: including camps and skill‑building sessions.
- Maintain competition pathways: helping athletes prepare for state, national, and international events.
These initiatives are not just about performance—they are about participation. They ensure that ice racing remains a sport where young people can discover their passion, build confidence, and grow within a welcoming community.
Strengthening Our Community
Ice racing in NSW is more than a sport; it is a community built on teamwork, volunteering, and shared enthusiasm. The NSW Department of Sport’s grant has helped us maintain this community by giving us the stability to retain skaters in an environment where ice time has been limited.
This support has enabled us to continue hosting events that bring our members together—club races, development days, and state championships that celebrate the hard work and spirit of our athletes. It has also supported efforts to establish a club at Erina Ice Arena and introduce new skaters to the sport, expanding our community and ensuring its long‑term sustainability.
Fueling High‑Performance Ambitions
NSW Ice Racing has a proud history of developing athletes who go on to represent Australia on the world stage. NSW had two skaters, Lucas Wareham and Hyojin Kim, who competed at the International Skating Unions World Cups and Championships and Jian Jung who competed at the Junior World Cup and Championships in 2025 and 2026.
Their support has helped us continue providing the environment these athletes need to excel. From specialised training sessions to competition preparation, this funding plays a vital role in ensuring that NSW skaters can pursue excellence without being held back by financial barriers.
Our Sincere Gratitude
To the NSW Government Office of Sport, THANK YOU. Your support has made such difference to our athletes, volunteers, and organisation. Your investment is more than financial—it is a vote of confidence in our community and in the future of Ice Racing in New South Wales.
On behalf of everyone at NSW Ice Racing, thank you for helping us stay on the ice, stay connected, and to “skate fast and turn left”.
