The Ice Racing New South Wales Inc (IRNSW)
(formerly The Ice Speed Skating Association of NSW
Inc), in association with the equivalent
organisations in Victoria and Queensland, is
affiliated with Australian Ice Racing Inc.
The IRNSW is the representative body for all
ice racing clubs in NSW. Its tasks are set out in
its Constitution.
One of those tasks is to keep up to date with
the latest rules for racing and to notify all
skaters of any racing rule changes. You can read a
brief version of the current racing rules created
by the NSW Chief Referee, Andrew Morgan, in Rules
for beginners.
Another task is to organise specific race
meetings during the year. A member of the
committee is the Event Co-ordinator and the event
co-ordinator, along with other volunteers
(appointed by the event co-ordinator) organises
both internal NSW events as well as running
national events on behalf of Australian Ice Racing
Inc.
The association is responsible for maintaining
the racing records for NSW and you can see the
current records at Records.
The executive
committee consists of 6 members. Meetings are
held monthly. Each affiliated club is invited to
nominate a delegate to participate in the meeting.
It is the club delegate's responsibility to inform
their club members of the IRNSW's plans and
activities.
Several NSW Government bodies support Ice
Racing New South Wales Inc. This may be by way of
workshops that enable committee members to keep up
to date with the latest developments on various
subjects from raising funds to presentation skills
and to make available health professionals to
visit a club and talk to club members (the
skaters).
The IRNSW acknowledges and appreciates the
support provided by the NSW Sports Federation and the
NSW Department of Sport and
Recreation. This assistance consists of:
- Financial assistance for the
development of the sport through various
programs and events.
- Advice and information on various
aspects of the sport.
- Sport development
- Coaching development
- Talent development
- Sport safety with programs for
participation and organiser codes of behaviour.
